Riptides (Triptych)

"This triptych illustrates a group of paddlers stumbling upon something magical. The ocean is alive! Inspired by the Hawaiian history of voyaging, exploration, and the relationship between man and sea. I wanted to create a serendipitous encounter between the paddlers and the ocean (represented with fish-like images). The relationship between the ocean and the Hawaiian culture is very special and complex."

Each print features hand-applied art resin on top-quality Birch wood panels resulting in luxurious vibrant colors and detail. Birch is a lighter colored wood that has a very fine wood grain. Each wood panel is cradled with a solid wood frame to ensure that it will not flex, stretch or warp.

Mae Waite is an independent artist and illustrator based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Many of her pieces are the embodiment of her surroundings and emotions that are influenced by the environment. She is constantly in tuned with the artistic process of creating and emphasizes on different techniques. Mae loves to experiment on different surfaces, working closely with oils, ink, graphite, watercolors, acrylics, gouache, and illustrator applications. Mae supports and encourages the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, such as Hemp paper with her matted prints.
